On the 1st of April 2020 PlatinumGames revealed what was thought to be their fourth announcement as part of the Platinum 4. The project was an arcade game called Sol Cresta, and was said to be coming to arcades near fans soon. However, the company soon revealed that this was an April Fool’s Day joke.
Now the Platinum 4 website has been updated with a fifth announcement. There is no date for the announcement, only a piece of text indicating that it will be made soon.
At the time the joke announcement was made, many PlatinumGames fans were outraged. They wanted a serious end to the secrecy that has been the Platinum 4, the four key announcements that PlatinumGames will be making this year.
Hideki Kamiya of PlatinumGames explained that the fourth announcement joke was meant to help raise spirits at this difficult time. To most people, the joke was definitely taken the right way. It’s unfortunate that some fans didn’t understand the intention of the joke, but the company insists that this next announcement is real.
So far PlatinumGames has announced The Wonderful 101: Remastered. This was a Kickstarter project for the game, and was fully funded within hours of being announced. The second announcement that the company made was for Project G.G., which is said to be the third installment in Kamiya’s superhero trilogy of games.
The third announcement that PlatinumGames made was for their new Tokyo studio. This studio is actually taking up most of the work on The Wonderful 101: Remastered, a game that is probably going to be one of the biggest of 2020 given the Kickstarter project’s success.
The final announcement from PlatinumGames is still very much up in the air. The company could announce another new IP, but some fans are holding out hope for more remasters. Bayonetta 3 is high on many fan’s wishlists, as well as Scalebound finally being developed.
No one outside of PlatinumGames knows what these announcements will be. One thing that is sure, is that everyone is watching PlatinumGames with bated breath.
