Sony has announced that they have acquired Savage Game Studios which marks the company’s latest acquisition to date.

Savage Games Studios is based in Berlin, Germany, and was founded in 2020 by some of the industry’s veterans who previously worked at studios such as Rockstar, Wargaming, Rovio, and Next Games.

Last year, Savage Game Studios raised $4.4 million in funding with the goal of developing a shooter game for mobile devices. The funds raised were supposed to be used to help with the development of the studio’s first title which was planned to be released sometime in 2022.

According to Sony, Savage Game Studios is currently developing a new unannounced AAA mobile live service action game.

Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios said that Savage Games Studios was founded a few years before with the aim of bravely exploring bold new ideas.

Hulst added that Sony shares the studio’s tireless ambition to innovate as well as its continued drive to expand the company’s audience and bring PlayStation to more people than ever before. According to him, this makes Savage Games Studios a perfect fit to join PlayStation Studios.

Savage Games will operate separately from the console business and will be a part of PlayStation’s newly formed Mobile Divison with its main focus being bringing new or existing PlayStation IP to mobile devices.

Hulst emphasized that this shouldn’t be interpreted as Sony moving its focus away from the market for traditional consoles.

The head of PlayStation studios concluded by saying that Sony has assured everyone before that their plans to bring specific PlayStation’s exclusive titles to PC in no way diminish the company’s commitment to the PlayStation community, nor does it diminish the company’s passion to keep creating amazing single-player, narrative-driven experiences.
