After being reported back in November 2015, Sony have now begun PS4’s PS2 backwards compatibility program. A current total of eight of the PS2’s most fan-loved games hit the PS4 on Saturday 5th December.
On the Playstation blog, the PS2—the best-selling console of all time—was praised for its technical innovations and top quality games that created countless fond memories in the minds of millions of gamers worldwide.
The PS2 games now available for purchase on PS4 are: Dark Cloud, Grand Theft Auto 3, GTA Vice City, GTA San Andreas, Rogue Galaxy, The Mark of Kri, War of the Monsters, and Twisted Metal: Black.
Each game will have full trophy support, developed in collaboration with the games’ original developers to ensure that they “capture the feeling and spirit” of the original titles. They will also be in up-rendered 1080p, and will include Remote Play, Activity Feeds, and Second Screen support.
Sony has said that they are committed to working “tirelessly” to bring more favourite PS2 games on a regular basis.
The move to release classic PS2 games will allow the PS4 to begin to catch up with Xbox One’s backwards compatibility, to which was recently added 104 Xbox 360 games.
