Mass Effect Legendary Edition launches on May 14, 2021

This week EA officially revealed the release date for Mass Effect Legendary Edition. The remastered trilogy of the first three Mass Effect games will hit shelves on May 14, 2021, for PS4 and Xbox One.

The announcement was made through a new trailer for the collection. The trailer showed off some visuals from all three games, showcasing just how much they’ve been reworked and remastered since they originally released.

One particular highlight from the trailer is how good the first Mass Effect game looks. It’s the oldest in the trilogy and doesn’t look quite as good as the second and third games naturally. However, it seems as though developer BioWare has put a lot of effort into fully reworking the visuals to ensure there is consistency in the look of everything across all three games.

Unfortunately, Mass Effect Legendary Edition doesn’t include Mass Effect Andromeda. The fourth Mass Effect game is the subject of much controversy among fans of the series, which is why it was left out of this remaster.

In addition to the revitalized looks, all three Mass Effect games have been mechanically tweaked as well. In particular, the first game’s controls have been changed to the same scheme as those in the second and third. This, so BioWare says, will make driving the Mako and combat much easier. In the original game, these were two aspects that fans had to fight against as they played.

EA teased Mass Effect Legendary Edition late last year. However, a release date has been absent until now. With little in the way of competition, this release could prove to be one of the most popular for the month.

BioWare has been showing screens and trailers for Mass Effect 4 for about a year now. With Mass Effect Legendary Edition launching this year, it’s possible that Mass Effect 4 is set to launch late in 2021. Only time will tell if EA bites the bullet and gives fans a full announcement for a new game in the series for later this year.

There’s still no word on any Dragon Age remasters, though Dragon Age 4 has been in development for some time, so 2021 might be that game’s year as well.
