God of War launches on PC in 2022

God of War

Santa Monica Studio has announced that God of War, the 2018 reboot for the series that saw Kratos move into Norse mythology, is coming to PC next year.

The game is a PlayStation exclusive, but Sony has been making a number of exclusives available on PC over the past couple of years. God of War will launch on January 14, 2022, but it’s been suspected ever since a sheet of PlayStation exclusives was leaked, hinting at possible PC ports.

In the announcement for the game’s PC port, it was noted that the title has sold 19.5 million copies on PS4 as of August 2021. The last time figures were shared was in May 2019 when the game hit 10 million copies sold.

God of War is one of the best PlayStation exclusive franchises on the market. For it to move to PC is both a blessing and a curse. PC enthusiasts will be overjoyed at finally being able to play the prestigious series in some form, while die-hard PlayStation fans will feel like their exclusives are being stripped away from them.

The truth is, Sony has been branching out with PlayStation exclusives for some time. God of War will join Death Stranding, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Days Gone, and Nioh 2 to name but a few exclusives that have made the transition to PC.

The concept that was the console wars of years past is coming to a close. No company wants its title to be an exclusive when more people could play it if it were available on multiple platforms. As Microsoft acquires more developers to make exclusives for Xbox, so too does Sony though.

God of War will almost certainly sell well because of the prestige it already has. But also because of the fact that it has a sequel coming out very soon in God of War: Ragnarok. This is only the start of Sony’s plan to move more exclusives over.

God of War 2018 is maybe the best title in the franchise because of how it moves it forward without breaking the lore. Fans were overjoyed at seeing more of Kratos, and the meaningful gameplay additions make it possible to enjoy over and over again.
