The mobile game Clash of Clans has been found to have earned the most revenue for a mobile game throughout 2015.
A wildly popular mobile app, Clash of Clans has earned its creator, Supercell, a number of financial achievements.
The mobile-focused market research firm App Annie recently published a retrospective report on the state of 2015’s mobile app industry.
They found that Clash of Clans generated the largest amount of revenue over 2015 on both iOS and Android platforms, beating competition from Candy Crush Saga and Game of War. In addition to having the highest revenue earning game, developer Supercell was also the highest earning mobile game developer.
Clash of Clans and Supercell were not only the highest earners in the United Kingdom, but also throughout the whole world.
Despite its success in terms of revenue, Clash of Clans had neither the largest amount of active users nor the most downloads. Candy Crush Saga attracted the most active users, while Crossy Road was downloaded the most in the UK. The publisher with the most downloads was EA.
App Annie’s analysis found that mobile games reached their full customer potential much quicker in 2015 than the previous year. In 2014, 90% of a game’s user base was reached in fifty weeks. In 2015, it took only seventeen.
The current mobile gaming hierarchy is likely to experience a significant shift this year, however, with the releases of Nintendo’s hotly awaited mobile games, which are expected to quadruple the publisher’s profits.
