Valkyria Chronicles 4 announced

Publisher SEGA announced the next game in the Valkyria Chronicles series, Valkyria Chronicles 4, will be releasing in Spring 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is still set in the same universe as the rest of the series. In this world in 1935 a huge World War 2 inspired war is raging between the two superpowers of the Atlantic Federation and the Autocratic Eastern Imperial Alliance.

According to SEGA’s press release the game will follow Commander Claude Wallace and his childhood friends who make up Squad E. This squad is being dispatched to capture the imperial capital in a last effort to end the war altogether. Though the Federation are holding back the Empire’s war machine is marching ever closer and flanking them at every turn. Squad E’s mission could be the turning point for this war however.

The game’s art style remains the same using watercolours to create a living canvas that brings the characters to life in a way not seen in many other video games. The core gameplay means Valkyria Chronicles 4 is still an RPG at heart, but a new cast of characters provides a fresh base for fans to enjoy.

The story is set to throw Claude and his childhood friends from their innocence into the harsh realities of war, coming up against mighty foes like the deadly Valkyria and all manner of monstrous sights that are the byproduct of warring nations.

In addition to the third person shooting and turn based RPG gameplay will be some new elements for players to enjoy. There will be more battleship support options for players to strategize with and a whole new class, the Grenadier.

Series composer Hitoshi Sakimoto is returning to work on Valkyria Chronicles 4, which will be the first title in the series to debut on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Past games in the series have initially released on PSP or PlayStation 3 including the original Valkyria Chronicles which released for PlayStation 3 in 2008, a sequel for PSP in 2010, and finally Valkyria Chronicles 3 for PSP in 2011.
