Total War: Three Kingdoms tops first UK digital chart

Total War Three Kingdoms

Total War: Three Kingdoms has become the first game to top the UK digital sales charts ever, as the first UK digital chart releases.

After it was previously thought that Team Sonic Racing would top this week’s digital chart, the data released shows that it is, in fact, Total War: Three Kingdoms that has sold best for the week. Previous predictions were based on the physical sales data for Team Sonic Racing, which is actually nowhere to be seen in the top 10 best-selling digital games for the week.

The entire digital sales chart looks extremely different to the physical counterpart which released slightly earlier this week. Games such as Minecraft, which is in fourth position, and Grand Theft Auto 5, which is in second place, perform much better in the digital chart than in the physical one. These games were in first and second position prior to this week, and regularly feature in the top 5 of the digital chart.

In the digital chart discounts can have a much larger impact on a game’s sales. Cities: Skylines, for example, is in sixth position this week thanks to a promotional price offer that saw it rise from ninety-fourth place last week.

There are definitely certain events that have an impact across both physical and digital sales however. FIFA 19 rose in the physical charts due to the Champions League Finals last week, and the same effect can be seen in the digital charts, with the game rising to fifth place from forty-ninth last week.

In terms of new releases there is only Total War: Three Kingdoms in the top ten this week. Team Sonic Racing sits in thirteenth place, though currently Nintendo’s digital sales aren’t taken into account for this chart. Similarly Everybody’s Golf VR is just behind Team Sonic Racing in fourteenth place.

While this chart is still a work in progress, with some companies like NIntendo and other smaller developers not sharing their digital sales data just yet, it does paint an accurate picture of the digital sales market. As the chart is improved with additional data it should fill in the gaps between both charts, providing an insight into how a game’s sales are affected by different conditions.

The top ten best-selling digital games in the UK last week were as follows.

1. Total War: Three Kingdoms
2. Grand Theft Auto 5
3. Monopoly Plus
4. Minecraft
5. FIFA 19
6. Cities: Skylines
7. Red Dead Redemption 2
8. Uno
9. F1 2018
10. Middle-Earth: Shadow of War
