Ubisoft have revealed the next title in the Ghost Recon franchise, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The new title was announced via a livestream which showed a trailer and alpha footage.
Yesterday some leaks from the Ubisoft store led to rumors that the next Ghost Recon game would be called Breakpoint. Those rumors have been confirmed with the game’s reveal today, which Ubisoft did through a livestream of both a trailer and some gameplay.
The new title continues the trend set by the hugely successful Ghost Recon Wildlands, putting the tactical squad of Ghost Recon special operatives in a brand new open world. The island of Auroa can be explored freely by players, and hosts a range of different biomes such as jungles, beaches, mountains, and even a volcano. But the game’s world is far from hospitable.

In Ghost Recon Breakpoint players are sent to Auroa to take back control of the world’s most advanced company, which produces drones for all purposes around the world, including combat. A rogue faction of special ops soldiers have taken control of this island and all of the drones this company creates.
In Breakpoint players won’t only need to compete with an army of soldiers who know their every move thanks to the advanced technology they control around the island, but they’ll have to fight with the terrain itself. Players can suffer serious injuries from high jumps, and they can take bad falls down steep inclines.
However, players are also able to use the terrain to hide, smothering themselves in mud to appear invisible to the enemy for example. It’s also possible, and sometimes necessary, to move dead bodies or downed allies in order to stay stealthy or recoup to take down enemies. With enemies on constant patrol, it’s never been more important to stay hidden.
A range of vehicles are coming to the game, including on-road and off-road vehicles, boats, and helicopters. Characters can be customised to a never before seen depth in the franchise, and new content is planned to release every four months after launch.
During the livestream Ubisoft showed the world premiere for Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s announcement trailer. Both the trailer and the gameplay have a heavy focus on advanced technology. The use of unmanned vehicles will be the enemy’s preference, and they’ll understand the moves players make even more so, because they are rogue Ghost Recon soldiers.
