Week ending on December 15, 2018, the UK’s Top 10 chart of the best selling retail and wholesale video games, Red Dead Redemption 2 took the top of the charts again. FIFA 19 is in the second position, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 took the third place. It looks like these titles will probably stay in top three positions on Christmas week and up until mid-January.

Four weeks after it originally held the position, Red Dead Redemption 2 has once again risen to first place in the UK physical charts. With the Red Dead Redemption 2 Online Beta currently out for all players many consumers are probably investing in a copy to give the successor to Grand Theft Auto Online a try.

Red Dead Redemption 2 saw an increase of 19 percent in sales over the week, moving it up from second place last week. FIFA 19 has also seen a rise in sales, by 30 percent week-on-week, which has moved it from third to second place. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has seen the release of a new, cheaper, version of the game, boosting sales week-on-week by 175 percent, landing it in third place in the chart this week. Combined these games alone generated 4 million physical game sales in the UK.

Sales for last week’s top game, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, have dropped by 52 percent week-on-week. Even so the game is holding out in the top half of the top 10 in the chart in fourth place this week. This is a good result for a game in the second week on sale.

As Christmas draws closer more consumers are purchasing Nintendo Switch consoles as presents. This has given Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition a boost in sales of around 20 percent, securing it in fifth place this week. The increase in sales was also seen across Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Party, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Xbox One games also seem to be selling well. As a result, Forza Horizon 4 has jumped from 17th place to eight this week with a 135 percent sales increase, thanks largely to a £10 discount offer. Spider-Man for PlayStation 4 rose from 11th to ninth thanks to a 68 percent sales increase, most likely because of an offer being held on the PlayStation Store.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy moved up two places to sixth thanks to a price cut, and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has risen from 12th to 10th. Battlefield 5 has fallen to seventh place in the chart due to an 8 percent drop in sales week-on-week.

Just Cause 4 has seen a 47 percent drop in sales, falling from sixth place to 13th on the chart. PUBG, which released last week for PlayStation 4, has also seen a sales drop to 25th place in the chart, though sales are steady with only a 1 percent drop week-on-week.

A PlayStation VR price promotion has caused movement among VR games. PlayStation VR Worlds rose to 26th place, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission rose to 28th, Skyrim VR rose to 34th, WipeOut: Omega Collection rose to 35th, and Doom VFR rose to 36th place.
