PlayStation Studios brand to launch with PlayStation 5

In order to unite their first-party studios, Sony is creating a new umbrella brand to cover them all, PlayStation Studios.

The brand will launch later this year, and will only be featured on PlayStation 4 and 5 games that are developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Worldwide Studios. A new logo, and even a new opening for us in the games, has been put together and revealed to the world.

The video that will appear in these games features clips from the biggest PlayStation exclusives, including God of War, Ratchet & Clank, LittleBigPlanet, The Last Of Us, and Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Senior Vice President and Head of Global Marketing, Eric Lempel, explained that the company is extremely excited about the new branding. It reinforced the core of the PlayStation brand with some of the greatest titles ever made for the platform.

Lempel described how this branding will go far beyond just games though. It will be part of trailers, advertising, and even game cases, allowing it to become synonymous with some of the best products in the industry.

Apparently this new PlayStation Studios branding is going to be ready for The Last Of Us Part 2, and Ghost of Tsushima, both of which launch in the next couple of months. However, the branding will not make it to the PC version of Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Interestingly, both Ghost of Tsushima and The Last Of Us Part 2 were recently delayed. While these delays were attributed to distribution and supply issues, it could also be that Sony wanted this new branding on its latest exclusives.

The branding is reminiscent of the Marvel Studios clip seen before every movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Lempel explains that everyone at Sony is a big Marvel fan, and they feel that the branding helps to bring everything together.

This feeling of everything being part of a shared universe is exactly what they want for first-party PlayStation games. The fact that the branding is launching just in time to make it onto PlayStation 5 exclusives will mean that from day one, everyone understands what PlayStation Studios is.
