Oculus Confirms Games Line Up at Launch

Oculus Rift

A lineup of thirty games has been revealed to be coming to the Oculus Rift as it launches towards the end of March 2016.

Oculus has published on its site a list of 30 games that are releasing on or around March 28, 2016, along with the Facebook-owned virtual reality gear.

The games to be released on the Oculus Rift include a wide range of titles, from big name franchises like Project CARS, Rock Band VR and Elite Dangerous, as well as a number of lesser-known and new IPs.

In addition to the release details, Oculus has also provided a three-stage method of clarifying the comfort intensity of the virtual reality experiences found within the games. These are ‘comfortable’, ‘moderate’ and ‘intense’. Presumably, these refer to the depth of the VR experience and amount the games withdraw players from the real world.

Eurogamer reported that ‘intense’ games—like Project CARS and EVE Valkyrie—are mostly first person or have fast moving third person camerawork. ‘Moderate’ games — like The Climb — have slower moving camera angles, whereas ‘comfortable’ games have fixed camera setups, like Pinball FX2 VR and Chronos.

Despite the undoubtedly high cost of developing games on the brand new Oculus technology, many of the revealed games have reasonably low price tags. Polygon calculated that the thirty games’ mean average price comes to a cost of $21.65, ranging from $4.99 (Adventure Time: Magic Man’s Head Games) to $59.99 (for Elite Dangerous and EVE Valkyrie). Polygon also noted that some of the games are free to play.

Alongside the thirty games set to be released with the Oculus headset on 28th March 2016, an additional eleven games have been announced for release at a later date. Crytek’s The Climb is due in April, with four more games also on the way for a spring release and an additional six games with unconfirmed release dates.
