Nintendo Launches Digital Shop on Amazon

Nintendo - Amazon

Nintendo have opened a section on the online retailer Amazon’s website for gamers in the USA to purchase Wii U, Wii and 3DS titles in digital format.

The online store lets you purchase a multitude of games directly from the Amazon website, which then gives you a code to be redeemed so you can download the game directly to your Nintendo device.

Over sixty games are currently listed on the site, including Nintendo heavyweights such as Mario Kart 8, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pikmin 3 and Pokémon X and Y.

This marks the first time in which Nintendo games have been offered for digital download through a third-party retailer, rather than from Nintendo’s own eShop. Amazon also now directly sells the 3DS, which marks the end of the period in which Nintendo devices could only be bought from Amazon’s third-party sellers.

The games are priced at a similar amount in USD to the games on Nintendo’s eShop. It has not yet been confirmed whether promotional sales will run simultaneously on both the Amazon store and the eShop store.
