Monster Hunter World requires an online connection regardless of whether or not players are making use of the matchmaking feature when they hunt their prey. The game allows players to create their own online session in order to invite friends to a specific session they all share, and players are also able to join other sessions that are currently open. It’s the first game in the series to use a shared world which can inhabit other players, allowing you to interact with them and join them should they need help.

PC players have been asking for a version of Monster Hunter World since it launched in January this year. The game was a huge hit with console players but has excluded the PC crowd until now. PC players will be able to enjoy playing with a wider range of other players than those on PlayStation 4 due to Sony’s continued restrictions on cross-play. Unfortunately all those PlayStation 4 players will miss out on the surge of new interest in the game, which will no doubt make the world feel full and alive like it was back in January.

Capcom is also bringing Monster Hunter Generations to Nintendo Switch later in August, showing a keen interest in getting more gamers into the series. For a long time Monster Hunter games were restricted to eastern releases, with Monster Hunter 3 only launching on the Nintendo Wii U and, unsurprisingly, selling poorly because of it. Now it seems as though Capcom wants to increase interest in the franchise and build up its reputation in the west to pave the way for future, larger releases.
