Week ending on June 23, 2018, the UK’s Top 10 chart of the best selling retail and wholesale video games, Mario Tennis Aces releases and takes the top of charts. FIFA 18 remains on the second position. God of War is pushed down to the third position of the charts.

Mario Tennis Aces has smashed the UK physical chart with sales this week, claiming the top spot from previous bestseller God of War. The game received mostly positive reviews and at the time of writing has a score of 77 on Metacritic with 32 positive reviews, and 11 mixed reviews. The only criticism players seem to have is that Mario Tennis Aces plays more like a fighting game instead of a Tennis game, and has some difficulty spikes that might make it inaccessible to some.

God of War fell even further than second place however, landing in third behind FIFA 18 which has seen a huge sales boost thanks to the popularity of the World Cup, and a new demo that was recently released on digital stores. Wimbledon is expected to have a similar effect on Mario Tennis Aces, though there are other, more accurate, tennis titles out there that could steal the spotlight.

Despite the Days of Play promotion having ended there are still three Sony titles in the top 10. Alongside God of War, Detroit: Become Human is sitting in fourth place, while PlayStation VR Worlds tails in tenth position.

News of a new Fallout title, Fallout 76, and sales of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One bundles packaged with the game have led to Fallout 4 securing fifth place in the chart. While the new title will be a departure from classic Fallout gameplay it doesn’t seem to be stopping new players from finding out what the universe is all about.

Flashback: Collectors Edition, a re-release of a very popular Amiga title for the game’s 25th anniversary has made it to twenty sixth place in the chart. The game is available for Nintendo Switch and seems to have met with the right crowd who crave retro and indie titles.

This coming week will see some big releases in Ubisoft’s The Crew 2, and the release of Crash Bandicoot N.Sane trilogy for PC, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. Also releasing is the Xbox One version of critically acclaimed Nier Automata. All of which could shake the physical chart up and knock a number of games out of the top ten.
