During the Microsoft E3 2018 press conference the release date for Kingdom Hearts 3 was confirmed as January 29, 2019.
Creator of the Kingdom Hearts series, Tetsuya Nomura, said that the game’s release date was planned for 2018 during a fan event, D23, last year. In May he corrected himself by saying that the game’s release date would be revealed soon.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is the next mainline entry in the Kingdom Hearts series, and has been in development for a number of years. The series combines the worlds of Final Fantasy and Disney, utilising the expert RPG mechanics that developer Square Enix has perfected throughout all of their games.
The game’s release date was confirmed after al engthly new trailer at Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference. The new trailer revealed more story details about the game, as well as two brand new worlds that players will be exploring, the worlds of the Disney movies Frozen and Tangled.
It’s surprising that Square Enix chose to reveal the game’s release date via the series Twitter account, just before it was shown during Microsoft’s E3 press conference, considering that they have their own press conference planned for today. With the release date out in the open Square Enix are now free to go into further detail about Kingdom Hearts 3 at their own E3 press conference, which could be why they left the reveal for earlier during the event.
While this release date is a delay it looks to be the final date Square Enix are settling on. A number of developers have delayed their releases in recent years in favor of polishing them to a level that will go beyond what players and critics are expecting.
With the number of delays Kingdom Hearts 3 has seen it should be an incredibly polished game by now, but it’s possible that the delays have also put some fans off of wanting to buy it by now. Square Enix will need to show fans exactly what they’re getting from this latest title during their E3 conference if they want to have some of the faith from fans they’ve lost restored.
