Week ending on May 19, 2018, the UK’s Top 10 chart of the best selling retail and wholesale video games, God of War for PS4 keeps the top of the charts. Fifa 18 is on the second place, and the newly released Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition for Switch took the third position of the charts.

God of War sales might have dropped by 33 percent week-on-week but it didn’t stop the game from securing the top sport in the UK physical sales charts for the fifth consecutive week. The only game to have held the top spot for longer is The Last Of Us on Playstation 3, which held the spot for six consecutive weeks.

However, God of War is up against some stiff competition over the coming week. Xbox exclusive State of Decay 2 launches on the 22nd of May, while cult classic reborn Dark Souls Remastered and Sony’s Detroit: Become Human launch on the 25th of May. All three of these titles are highly anticipated, and with one of them being an Xbox exclusive there’s a good chance that Xbox gamers will be picking up State of Decay 2 just because of its exclusivity to the console.

This week saw one new entry in the UK top ten physical games chart, Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. The game launched for Nintendo Switch and is currently the game’s second biggest launch behind the original Wii U release, which sold more than double the units than it has on the Switch. The version for Nintendo 3DS sold less than the Switch version despite the fact that the 3DS console is considerably more popular.

While Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is still performing well in sales it dropped to fourth position in the chart. Elsewhere a retail promotion from UK retailer GAME called LetsPlayMay has given a number of titles a boost in sales which has seen them rise over the course of the month.

13 games in the top 40 saw a sales boost from LetsPlayMay, including Assassin’s Creed Origins, which has dropped only 2 percent in sales after weeks of large gains, LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 has seen an increase in sales of 3 percent, and Grand Theft Auto 5 has seen a drop of 5 percent in sales after weeks of gains, much like Assassin’s Creed Origins. Lastly, Call of Duty: WW2 sales have increased by 7 percent.

FIFA 18 was the game with the biggest sales booth this month with an increase in sales of 89 percent, securing it second position in the weekly chart. Interestingly FIFA 18 performed well because of an entirely separate promotion to LetsPlayMay.

In niche games Dragon’s Crown Pro debuted at thirty-third place in the chart, and Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey Redux for Nintendo 3DS is in thirty-first place.
