Week ending on February 23, 2019, the UK’s Top 10 chart of the best selling retail and wholesale video games, Anthem releases and takes the top of the chars. Far Cry New Dawn was pushed down to the second position. FIFA 19 (with a new cover picture) took the third position.

Last week Anthem managed to top the UK physical retail charts despite releasing on Friday. 54 percent of all sales were for PlayStation 4, with 40 percent for Xbox One, and the remaining copies sold for PC.

Anthem sold far more copies than the big new releases from the week prior, Metro Exodus and Far Cry New Dawn. However, Resident Evil 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3 still sold faster, meaning Anthem didn’t quite become the fastest-selling game of the year so far.

Given that Anthem is an MMO, and therefore based online, the game more than likely sold as well, if not better, on digital storefronts. Currently the UK chart doesn’t take digital sales into account so it’s hard to tell just how well Anthem sold altogether.

Far Cry New Dawn saw a drop in sales of 43 percent week-on-week, falling down to second place in the chart. The title seemed to be well-received initially but has since seen its fair share of negative articles and videos as players tire of the game’s familiar playstyle to Far Cry 5.

Metro Exodus saw a drop of 55 percent in week-on-week sales. It fell further than Far Cry New Dawn down to fifth place in the chart. This positions the game behind two older titles that continue to sell well: FIFA 19 in third, and Red Dead Redemption 2 in fourth.

Bandai Namco’s latest title, Jump Force, saw sales drop by the most week-on-week, falling to seventeenth place from fourth last week due to a drop in sales of 64 percent. The game’s audience is fairly niche however, which is probably why it’s seen such a dramatic drop.

The fourth new release for the previous week, Crackdown 3, hasn’t seen much improvement in sales since it launched. The game has dropped to 26th place in the chart, with sales down by 51 percent.

FIFA 19 has seen an improvement of sales of 44 percent, pushing it up to third place from fifth the previous week, which is thought to be attributed to certain promotional offers. Forza Horizon 4 seems to have experienced a similar promotion, having moved up from fifteenth to sixth place this week with a rise in sales of 82 percent.
