Dragon Ball Z: Karakot has topped the UK physical chart for another week, though it’s only held out by 400 units.
While Dragon Ball Z: Karakot saw a drop in week-on-week sales of 62 percent, it still managed to beat Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which is currently sitting in second place in the chart.
January 2020 is extremely quiet, even compared to the same period in previous years. This time in 2018 saw the release of Resident Evil 2 Remake, a hugely successful game for Capcom, but this year the only new release to speak of is Rugby 20 from Big Ben Interactive.
The game debuted in thirteenth place in the chart, which is a huge improvement on the last release in the series, Ruby 18, which didn’t even make it into the top forty best-selling games at retail in the UK. However, Rugby 18 released in November 2017, a release window packed with a number of big releases, when physical sales are much stronger. Still, Rugby 20 has sold around 25 percent more copies than Rugby 18 did in the same period after release.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is showing a nice steady boost to sales off the back of the Netflix TV show. Two weeks ago the game placed thirty-eighth in the chart, last week it was in twentieth place, and this week it’s pushed up to twelfth place. It will be very interesting to see if the influence of the TV show can make it re-enter the top ten just under five years after its initial release.
With widespread stock shortages of the Nintendo Switch, sales haven’t been as consistent as they usually are. However, some retailers have advertised that they have the device in stock, boosting sales for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition, often bundled with the console, to sixth place in the chart.
The surge of games that saw a boost thanks to low prices at Argos has waned slightly this week. WarioWare Gold dropped from fifth to eighteenth, and YoKai-Watch has fallen from eighth to twenty-eighth.
