Resident Evil 0, 1, and 4 to release for Nintendo Switch

In a recent Tweet from the official Resident Evil Twitter account it was confirmed that Resident Evil 0, 1, and 4 will be releasing for Nintendo Switch on the 21st of May 2019.

Resident Evil has never been a core series for Nintendo, but throughout the years Nintendo fans have always enjoyed the games on their systems. So far only a few Resident Evil titles have been available for Nintendo Switch, including Resident Evil Revelations and Revelations 2. Resident Evil 7 is even available via a streaming service for the Nintendo Switch in Japan, but no other modern games have made their way to the system.

However, on the 21st of May that will all change as three more Resident Evil titles joint the Nintendo eShop. Resident Evil 0, 1, and 4 will be available to pre-order on Nintendo’s storefront from the 28th of February. Each game has been confirmed to be the HD remaster version, and not a port of the original version.

In Europe none of these games will be coming to retail for the Nintendo Switch. However, in the US it’s been confirmed that the Resident Evil Origins Collection will be sold at retail. This physical copy of the games packages Resident Evil Zero and 2002 remake of Resident Evil, originally released for the Nintendo Gamecube, together.

The Resident Evil series is, for the most part, one of the oldest in gaming’s horror genre. The original blew fans away with its terrifying atmosphere, and camera angles that created just the right level of suspense so as to ensure the player was always on their toes.

Recent Resident Evil games have seen a return to these horror roots. Resident Evil 7 was a horror masterpiece, and is still one of the best games for Playstation VR, while Resident Evil 2 Remake, which released earlier this year, has brought new and old fans into the fold. Resident Evil 2 Remake in particular looks to herald Capcom’s renewed dedication to creating the best horror experiences in gaming, and reigniting the Resident Evil community’s fires.

Resident Evil 4, while a great game in its own right, saw the series go down a far more action-oriented path. Some fans weren’t bothered by this, but for others it ruined the experience. Most fans are far more happy with the return to a horror setting in recent Resident Evil games, but most still say Resident Evil 4 was a masterpiece for what it did both for other games it inspired, such as Dead Space, and for the series.
