Resident Evil 2 releases and tops the UK charts

Resident Evil 2 Remake has topped the UK physical game sales chart 20 years after the original game achieved the same feat. In April 1998 the original Resident Evil 2 launched for the PS1 and topped charts with its gripping take on the horror genre.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is actually Capcom’s biggest UK launch since January last year, when Resident Evil 7 released and topped charts in a similar fashion. While Resident Evil 2 Remake didn’t beat the sales of Resident Evil 7, falling short by about 18 percent, it’s quite impressive considering that Resident Evil 2 Remake isn’t a brand new release to the series.

Capcom unveiled Resident Evil 2 Remake at E3 during Sony’s opening press conference. Since launch the game has sold best on Sony’s leading console, PlayStation 4, with around 74 percent of all physical copies purchased in the UK being for the platform.

New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe ’s stint at the top of the charts has come to an end, falling to fourth place. The game has also seen a drop in sales of 44 percent week-on-week, demonstrating a steady decline expected after this amount of time for a new release.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown has fallen from second place last week down to sixth. The game’s sales have dropped by 51 percent, but they’re still impressive given that Ace Combat has a relatively niche audience.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has risen from third place last week up to second place. The game’s online element continues to evolve as Rockstar Games develop and adapt it based on consumer feedback, leading many to want to give the developer’s latest online world a chance.

Elsewhere in the charts Just Cause 4 rose to 22nd place thanks to some promotional pricing. Other discounts and promotions have boosted sales for Astro Bot Rescue Mission, rising to 38th place, and PlayStation Worlds VR, rising to 27th place.
