Week ending on August 18, 2018, the UK’s Top 10 chart of the best selling retail and wholesale video games, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy on Xbox One and on Nintendo Switch platforms keep the top of charts for the 8th consecutive week. A five year old game, Grand Theft Auto V raised to the second position. And the newly released Blizzarad’s World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth took the the third position.

For the eighth week in a row now Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy has held the number one spot in the UK physical video game sales chart.

Over the summer the game has crashed any competition that’s released, though admittedly releases have been light this year. The powerful nostalgia the collection inspires has also helped it stay ahead until now. But with some massive new games set for release in a couple of weeks the days in the top spot are surely numbered, particularly against releases such as FIFA 19 and Destiny 2 Forsaken.

While Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy claimed the top of the all-formats chart, Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth claimed number one in the PC charts. The latest expansion has had players returning to the famous MMO in order to undertake new quests, level up, and earn brand new gear. The game ranks third in the all-formats chart, unable to content with the sales Grand Theft Auto 5 generated.

With this change in the top three Lego The Incredibles has sunk to fifth place, after holding out in the top three for five weeks in total, an impressive achievement for a Lego title. Sales of the game were also no doubt helped by the new Incredibles movie release, and with that moving out of cinemas it’s likely had an affect on sales of the game.

By next week two highly-anticipated new titles will have launched, F1 2018 and Shenmue 1 and 2 Remastered. Both of these titles have a good chance at knocking Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy off of the top spot, but it’s ultimately down to how consumers prefer to buy their copies.

With more consumers preferring to purchase their games as digital copies the top spot might stay the same. The last game to knock Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy out of number one before it achieves nine weeks there was Call of Duty: WW2.
