Bethesda is working with Avalanche Sweden, developers of Mad Max and the Just Cause series, and have confirmed their involvement in the blend of shooter and third person action game.
The first game in the series was developed by John Carmack’s id Software. While the studio is working on the game in conjunction both Bethesda and Avalanche Sweden it’s Avalanche that fans are most interested. Since the developer worked on the fantastic Mad Max game they have a wealth of experience in creating great post-apocalyptic worlds, particularly ones with barely held together vehicles in. Avalanche Sweden have helped Bethesda before, working with them on the shooting mechanics in Fallout 4 and Prey.
Rage 2 is set for release in Summer 2019, and today they revealed the first real gameplay trailer. It shows a much brighter and far more diverse world than the original game’s, with a lush forest, built up city area, and a vast desert. Players will be able to enjoy the satisfying shooting of the original, combined with the same high-octane racing that gives players such freedom in this massive open world.
Players will take on the role of Walker, the last Ranger in Rage 2’s world which has just been decimated by the impact of an asteroid. Players are a threat to the Authority’s power and are robbed and left for dead because of it. The core of the game is focussed around the player’s rage for freedom in the world.
Wasteland vehicles are being improved upon with gyrocopters making an entrance, and Nanotrite powers are also making a return too, empowering players with abilities fostered by this brave new world.
Bethesda are set to hold their biggest E3 press conference ever at this year’s show, and Rage 2 will almost certainly be a part of it. The company are usually very good at sticking to timelines, meaning Rage 2 will almost definitely release in about a year’s time.
