U.S. best selling video games: Week of May 23, 2020

The US weekly game sales chart was once again dominated by Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The game is holding strong at the top of the chart, even though it has seen a drop in sales of 22 percent week-on-week.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is also holding strong, sticking in second place for another week in a row. The game only saw an 8 percent decrease in sales week-on-week, but sales aren’t strong enough to get ahead of Animal Crossing: New Horizons yet.

Saints Row: The Third Remastered is a new entry in third place this week. The game launched across all major platforms, and has proven itself a hit with fans new and old. This is hardly surprising, given that this was one of the most popular games in the series.

NBA 2K20 moves up one more place from fifth to fourth this week. The game still has a discount available for it, pushing sales as time goes on. Sales were actually up by 32 percent week-on-week.

Maneater is another new entry in the chart this week, placing fifth. The game puts players in the role of a shark, and sends them on various murderous rampages around overfilled beaches, ripe with tourists to consume.

MLB The Show 20 dropped to sixth place this week with a fall in sales of 28 percent week-on-week. The game couldn’t compete against increased sales for other titles in the chart.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe dropped to seventh this week, and Luigi’s Mansion 3 fell to eighth. While we don’t have data on the week-on-week drop in figures, we can see that this is probably linked to a drop in Switch hardware stock. This could indicate that Nintendo needs to provide more consoles in order to keep up with the demand.

Grand Theft Auto 5 continues its rise from last week, moving up to ninth, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order rounds off the chart in tenth. Having seen a boost caused by a free update, the latest Star Wars game has now seen a fall in sales of 24 percent week-on-week.
