U.S. best selling video games: Week of August 17, 2019

Madden NFL 20

Madden NFL 20 holds the top of the US physical games wholesale chart for the 3rd consecutive week, ending on August 17, 2019. The game continues to perform well with the sales drop of only 12% compared to the previous week.

The week hasn’t seen any major new releases, with some of the games in the top sellers chart being as old as a few years. Minecraft took the second position this week. The sales of the title saw an increase on different platforms, with the biggest sales rise on PlayStation 4. The game was in the center of increased attention by different media recently, including some youtube streamers who have recently reviewed the latest updates of the game.

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled continues to sell well, with only a slight decrease in sales compared with the previous week. This pushed the title down by one position to the third place in the chart. Grand Theft Auto 5 is traditionally in the middle of the weekly chart, this week is on the 4th position. The online components of both Rockstar games, GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, plus the GTA 5’s latest update, adding casino gambling in the game, significantly increased the sales. Red Dead Redemption 2 took the 7th place of the chart this week.

This was a Nintendo and Activision week, with three games in the top ten by Nintendo and three by Activision. Since the majority of the sales of Minecraft was on the Switch platform, this can probably also count as a Nintendo title, making the number of Nintendo titles four this week. Over half of the titles in the top ten are not this year’s releases.
