Obsidian Entertainment has officially announced the new release date for The Outer Worlds on Nintendo Switch. After being delayed due to complications with the developer working on the port, the game will now launch on June 5, 2020.
The game was originally meant to launch for Nintendo’s hybrid console on March 6. However, as complications around the coronavirus (COVID-19) grew more serious, the developer working on the port, the Virtuos team, were forced to stop working on it and remain at home in self-isolation. This was in February 2020.
At the time of this announcement, the game was delayed indefinitely. The coronavirus was becoming more of an issue around the world, and it was a sensible decision from Obsidian Entertainment given the knowledge they had on it at the time. Now that things are more certain though, the Virtuos team has been able to complete their work.
The Outer Worlds will launch both digitally and physically for Nintendo Switch. The digital version will contain the day one patch, containing a number of fixes that have been implemented in the main game over recent months. The physical version of the game will come on a game card, and require a day one update, which Obsidian Entertainment is advising could be around 6GB in size.
The Outer Worlds is the spiritual successor to Fallout: New Vegas from Obsidian Entertainment. The game takes all of the elements that players enjoyed from their latest outing in the Fallout series, and enhances it with improvements that they wish they could have made at the time.
In The Outer Worlds, players are able to do whatever they want. No NPC is safe from their weapons, making for some very interesting playthroughs if people play it in just the right, or wrong way.
While most fans are waiting for DLC for The Outer Worlds, the Nintendo Switch community is just eager to get their hands on the game on their platforms full stop. As long as no further delays are caused in the game’s release, everything should go smoothly when it launches later this year on the Switch.
