After enjoying a brief stint at the top of the UK retail sales chart, Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled has been overthrown by the Nintendo Switch exclusive Super Mario Maker 2. The game has become the biggest Nintendo game, beating New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe.
Super Mario Maker 2’s launch comes alongside a big push for the Nintendo Switch’s marketing, which has seen other Nintendo titles rise up in the chart as well.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition saw an increase in week-on-week sales of 39 percent, pushing it from eighth place last week to fifth this week. Super Smash Bros Ultimate re-entered the chart in tenth place with a rise in week-on-week sales of 14 percent. Even the 2017 release, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, missed out on making the top ten chart by 28 units sold, rising from twenty-second to eleventh with a rise in sales of 66 percent week-on-week.
Thanks to the release of the Nintendo Switch version of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the game saw a week-on-week increase in sales of 60 percent, boosting it from seventeenth to ninth place in the chart. The Nintendo Switch version sold more copies than the combined launch sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.
While Crash Team Racing fell to second place this week, it only saw a drop in sales of 48 percent week-on-week.
F1 2019 was a new release for the week, entering the chart in third place. The game managed to match the launch sales of F1 2018, but didn’t manage to beat them. By launching the game earlier in the F1 season, Codemasters, the game’s developer, hope that it might sell better over the course of the year.
Sega’s new IP, Judgement, which was delayed earlier this year due to controversy surrounding one of the actors, has debuted in fourth place in the chart. Car Mechanic Simulator from Ravenscourt debuted in twenty-third place in the chart, and The Sinking City, from Big Ben, debuted in twelfth place.
As recent Sony sales have ended PlayStation 4 titles have slipped down the chart, with Marvel’s Spider-Man dropping from nineteen to thirty-ninth place for example.
However, other discounts have had great effects on individual titles, such as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which has risen to eighth from thirty-fourth place with a 136 percent boost in sales. Conversely FIFA 19 has dropped from second place to twentieth due to price promotions ending, causing sales to fall by 75 percent week-on-week.
