After three weeks at the top of the UK physical chart Days Gone has finally been overtaken by Bethesda’s most recent release, Rage 2.
The original Rage launched the week after FIFA 12 in October 2011, and as a result it didn’t make it to the top spot of the UK chart. Despite Rage 2 beating its predecessor in that matter, the game hasn’t even matched the sales of the first Rage. Rage 2’s physical sales are only a quarter of those for the original Rage on PC, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.
However, since 2011 digital sales have grown significantly, accounting for around 50 percent of all game sales for consoles in the UK, according to GSD data. Even taking this into account, Rage 2 has most likely sold about 50 percent of the copies the original sold. Unfortunately Bethesda is one of the few publishers that won’t share their digital sales data, so an accurate picture of how well Rage 2 has performed is impossible to get until they do.
57 percent of copies of Rage 2 copies were sold for PlayStation 4, making it the dominant choice among consumers. 38 percent were sold for Xbox One, and the remaining 5 percent were sold for PC, though the majority of PC sales will have been made through Steam.
The other notable release for last week, A Plague Tale: Innocence, charted in ninth place in the chart. The game, developed by Asobo Studios and published by Focus Home Interactive is a narrative-driven adventure akin to The Last Of Us, and seems to have performed well despite stiff competition in the form of Rage 2.
The only other new release for the week was Sniper Elite V2 Remastered. The game debuted in thirteenth place, with only 100 units separating it from the top ten. 49 percent of sales were for PlayStation 4, 30 percent on Xbox One, and the remaining 21 percent were for Nintendo Switch.
Days Gone dropped to second place with the launch of Rage 2, seeing a drop in sales of 38 percent week-on-week. Mortal Kombat 11 saw a drop in sales of 47 percent week-on-week, falling from second to fourth place.
Thanks to a new update that introduces PVP Sea of Thieves re-entered the chart in fortieth place. The update has increased sales week-on-week for the last 2 weeks. The inclusion of the game on the new Xbox One X All-Digital Edition has also aided sales over this time.
