Pokémon Legends: Arceus remains on top of UK charts

Pokemon Legends: Arceus remains the best-selling game in the UK for the second week in a row, in spite of its 72% drop in sales week-on-week.

This represents a significant drop for a Pokemon game, even when compared to the sales drop of the previous Pokemon installments, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which went down by 61% during its second week of sales during the Black Friday sales window.

The video game that almost managed to knock the Pokemon Legends: Arceus down to second place was the second installment of the Dying Light franchise, Dying Light 2 Stay Human, which was developed and published by Techland.

Dying Light 2 Stay Human has just launched, and it is already one of the best-selling games across multiple digital platforms, reaching number five on the Top Games Steam charts, which indicates that it is expected to be a good seller, however, the GfK data only accounts for physical retail sales.

The previous Dying Light installment peaked at number one back in 2015 after initially having a digital launch, however, any kind of comparison doesn’t do it justice since the video game market has changed. Regardless, if we were to compare its launch to a recent game, its launch would have been stronger than the recent release of Guardians of the Galaxy, which was only slightly behind Battlefield 2042 when it launched.

54% of UK Dying Light 2 sales were for PlayStation 5, 27% were for Xbox, and 19% of the sales were for PlayStation 4.

Another game that appeared on the charts this week was Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo Olympic Games 2020, seeing a 263% increase in sales, likely as a result of retail promotions. The game came in at number 15, right about the time when Winter Olympics in Beijing were about to begin.

Lastly, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which was last week’s new release for PlayStation 5 has seen a 70% drop in sales, dropping down from the fifth spot, all the way to number 21.
