Week ending on September 15, 2018, the UK’s Top 10 chart of the best selling retail and wholesale video games, Marvel’s Spider-Man keeps the top of the charts. Two fresh releases Shadow of the Tom Raider and NBA 2K19 took the second place and the third place consecutively.

The final game in the Tomb Raider reboot series released this week, but was unable to compete with Spider-Man for physical sales. Xbox One sales accounted for 36 percent of the game’s sales, while 63 percent were for Playstation 4.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider sales were up on the previous game in the series, Rise of the Tomb Raider which launched in 2015, by 25 percent. The major difference between the two is that Rise of the Tomb Raider launched as an Xbox One exclusive for the first year, whereas Shadow of the Tomb Raider has launched across Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Compared to the original Tomb Raider reboot, which launched in 2013, the physical sales for this first week are down by 70 percent. However, a larger portion of game sales are now accounted for by digital purchases than they were five years ago when the first Tomb Raider reboot game released.

Physical sales of Spider-Man were still greater than those of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, meaning the newly released title debuted in second place in the chart. Sales of Spider-Man for the second week have fallen by 42 percent compared to week one, and the game is verging on beating the last successful Playstation 4 exclusive of this year, God of War.

In third place in the chart is another new entry, NBA 2K19. The game has placed lower than the previous title, but sales are thought to be the same, though unable to compete with either Spider-Man or Shadow of the Tomb Raider. 2 percent of the physical sales of NBA 2K19 were for Nintendo Switch, 33 percent were for Xbox One, and 65 percent were for Playstation 4.

The Elder Scrolls Online has seen a price cut over the week and risen from 8th place in the chart from 27th the previous week.

Destiny 2 Forsaken sales dropped by 68 percent week-on-week, landing the game in 26th place in the chart. Similarly sales of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age dropped by 86 percent, meaning the game is now placed at 29th. NHL19 launched and is a new entry in the physical sales chart in 28th place.
