According to a recent Tweet from Nintendo Europe, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch game of 2019 so far.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch is the remake of the original GameBoy title, which launched in 1993. The game shot to the top of the UK retail sales charts, and has become the fastest-selling game on the platform for 2019 so far.
The game launched on September 20, 2019, the same date as the Nintendo Switch Lite. While many consumers will have invested in the new console just for this game, the game itself is far more popular. The Zelda franchise is beloved by Nintendo fans, who have been waiting for a new release for the Nintendo Switch since Hytale, a Zelda rhythm adventure spin-off.
The fact that the Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is the fastest selling Nintendo Switch game of 2019 so far shows it has sold faster than a number of other big games for the console. Super Mario Maker 2, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and Astral Chain have all launched earlier in the year, but none have sold as quickly as the latest Zelda title.
There are two games due for release later this year which could dethrone The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. The first is Luigi’s Mansion 3, which launches on the 31st of October. The second is the combined might of Pokemon Sword and Shield, both of which are the first new mainline Pokemon games for the Nintendo Switch.
While Luigi’s Mansion 3 isn’t likely to sell faster than this latest Zelda game, Pokemon Sword and Shield could. The latest Pokemon games offer brand new gameplay features, a new roster of Pokemon, and a number of other interesting features which will keep players engaged for much longer than other Pokemon titles have.
In The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening players take on the role of Link once more, as he is found on an island beach. They must conquer dungeons and solve puzzles around the island in order to save it.
