Last night during the Game Awards shows a number of new games were announced or had new trailers and information about them confirmed. Here are the biggest game announcements and new details that were revealed during the show.
A third game in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance franchise was announced as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. The previous two titles have allowed players to create their own team from a huge roster of Marvel heroes, and it seems as though this third game will be no different. One major change to the game is the camera angle, which was always top down, but has now been altered to an over the shoulder view, getting players close to the combat.
The box art leaked hours before the game’s new trailer was shown, but Far Cry New Dawn is the latest game in the Far Cry franchise. In the classic Far Cry formula, this game is a less serious take on the previous game’s setting, much like Far Cry 3’s Blood Dragon DLC. New Dawn brings the concept of living in a post-apocalyptic world as an outlaw to life. Players will be competing with Mad Max style enemies in a world not too dissimilar to the Wild West. The game will release for all major platforms on the 15th of February, though Nintendo Switch was not confirmed.
A new title from the creators of Pyre and Bastion, Supergiant Games, revealed their latest project, Hades. The game is a stylish dungeon crawler that will launch on the Epic Games Store. It appears to have roguelike elements and an isometric look and feel just like the developer’s previous games.
A new trailer for Anthem, Bioware’s story-focussed MMO, was shown during the event. The trailer focused on story and showed the campaign’s antagonist for the first time, as well as hinting more at what the core story will be.
Rumors before the Game Awards hinted at Activision revealing a remastered version of the PS1 cult classic, Crash Team Racing, and those rumors were confirmed with a trailer. The remaster, much like the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, has been built from the ground up whilst retaining the essence of what made the original so fantastic. The game will release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on June 21, 2019.
Obsidian promised a game announcement for the Game Awards and they didn’t disappoint. The original creators of Fallout and the developers of Fallout: New Vegas announced The Outer Worlds. This new RPG is set on the edge of a system that is being systematically sold off. Players will choose to fight the corporation or side with them, with promises of space exploration, intense combat, and hilarious characters along the way.
From the developers of No Man’s Sky, Hello Games, comes The Last Campfire. The game is being touted as a Hello Games Short, meaning it is a much smaller project than the grand-scale No Man’s Sky, with a focus on mysteries and story. More information about The Last Campfire will come in 2019.
PUBG has just launched for PlayStation 4, and alongside this release comes a new winner map, Vikendi. Most people already knew about the new map as it was mentioned in pre-order content for the PlayStation 4 version. However, this doesn’t make the expansion of the game that sparked the battle royale obsession off any less exciting.
Wildcard, developers of ARK Survival Evolved, announced a new MMO survival title, Atlas. The game promises to be even bigger than ARK, hosting more players and will launch for Xbox One in 2019.
Hints of a new Dragon Age title were made by Bioware in the days leading up to the Game Awards. The trailer shows very little detail, but is nonetheless confirmation that a long-awaited fourth game in the Dragon Age series is coming in the next three years.
A strange trailer for Stranger Things 3 The Game revealed Streets of Rage-style combat and isometric gameplay. Nothing else has been revealed concerning the Stranger Things title, but it looks as though it will launch alongside the new series of the Netflix TV show.
The eleventh game in the Mortal Kombat franchise was revealed with a brutal trailer during the Game Awards. The title is going to release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch early in 2019 on the 17th of January.
During the Game Awards the map in Fortnite changed. Risky Reels became The Black, which will be a space in which Epic will showcase player-creations. The creations will no doubt be pulled from the new creative mode that’s being tested currently, and should provide even more diversity to the map.
The massively popular Persona series will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in the form of DLC for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The DLC adds Joker from Persona 5 as the first of five characters that have been promised for the title, including brand new stages and music to enjoy.
After over four years Ashen has finally launched for Xbox One and on the epic Game Store. The game was inspired by both Team Ico classics and the Dark Souls genre, making it a creative and addictive blend of both.
It was announced during the show that the incredible title known as Journey, originally a PlayStation-exclusive, will finally be releasing for PC in 2019 via the Epic Game Store.
A new trailer for RAGE 2, Bethesda’s next open-world release, developed by id Software and Avalanche Studios, was shown and announced a release date. RAGE 2 will finally launch on the 14th of May 2019. The trailer shows more open world gameplay, indicating that this is a far cry from the original title.
A new edition of the thought-provoking title The Stanley Parable, will be launching for consoles next year. The game is still declared as one of the best for PC, allowing players to explore multiple endings through any means, adding meaning to almost everything. No release date was confirmed.
A new title from Giant Squid, developers of ABZU, showed a more action-oriented experience than their previous title. The gameplay focuses on fighting enemies with the help of an eagle. The Pathless will launch for PlayStation 4 in 2019.
