Week ending on July 27, 2019, the UK’s Top 10 chart of the best selling retail and wholesale video games, Fire Emblem: Three Houses releases and takes the top of the UK physical charts. Another new release, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, takes the second position. Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled slipes down to the third place.

With two highly anticipated new releases last week it was hard to say which one would sell best at retail in the UK. Now however it seems clear that Fire Emblem: Three Houses beat Wolfenstein: Youngblood to the top spot.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses saw significantly more sales than the franchise’s last major release, Fire Emblem Fates. As a Nintendo Switch exclusive, the game restores Nintendo to the top of the chart, after Super Mario Maker 2 was beaten by Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.

Last week four Nintendo-published titles were in the top ten best-selling games: Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Super Mario Maker 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood sits in second place in the chart. The title was highly anticipated among fans of the Wolfenstein series, but outside of this core group there was little excitement for it. The game was met with positive reviews, but despite a focus on co-op gameplay there’s little in it that changes the formula of the games.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order slipped from second to sixth this week. This seems like a reasonable drop for the title considering it’s a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

With the launch of a new expansion for Grand Theft Auto Online, The Diamond Casino and Resort, Grand Theft Auto 5 rose from fourteenth to seventh this week. The expansion has come under fire in some countries for allowing players to gamble, leading to all of the casino games being actively blocked in those regions.

Red Dead Redemption 2 fell from eighth to tenth this week. The game has seen a brief rise in popularity once again due to rumours of an alien DLC surfacing. These rumours suggest that Rockstar Games will soon release an expansion for the game in a similar style to Undead Nightmare for the original. However, the key difference between these two DLCs would be that Red Dead Redemption 2’s is set to focus on aliens instead of zombies.
