In the first week on sale FIFA 20 has topped the UK physical sales chart. The game has become the biggest release of 2019 so far, despite physical launch sales being down by 7 percent year-on-year compared to FIFA 19.
61 percent of all FIFA 20 copies were for PlayStation 4, 38 percent were for Xbox One, and 1 percent for the Nintendo Switch, which only saw the release of the game’s legacy version. PlayStation 4 physical sales for FIFA 20 are down year-on-year, while those for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One are both up this year.
Xbox One copies of FIFA 20 saw a boost thanks to a hardware bundle from Microsoft, Amazon, and GAME. FIFA 20, Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, and Forza Horizon 3 were packaged with an Xbox One S All-Digital Edition for £169.99.
Sales of this bundle pushed Sea of Thieves from twenty-first to seventh in the chart, with a rise in sales of 199 percent. The Xbox version of Minecraft rose from twenty-second to ninth in the chart, with an increase in sales of 197 percent. Finally, Forza Horizon 3 rose to tenth place in the chart with an increase in sales of 183 percent. Each of these figures shows the impact that a new FIFA release still holds in 2019.
The next largest release for the week was Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age for Nintendo Switch. The game has come to the Switch about a year after the original PlayStation 4 release, and debuted at eleventh in the chart. This latest version of the game sold about 50 percent of what the original release did in the first week.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening dropped from first place last week to second this week, with sales dropping by 62 percent week-on-week. Borderlands 3 too fell one place, from second to third, with a 45 percent drop in week-on-week sales. Gears 5 saw a 70 percent increase in sales week-on-week, allowing it to stick in fourth place. This boost was caused by a hardware bundle. In fifth this week was Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, thanks to a 74 percent increase in week-on-week sales due to a UK pricing adjustment.
Elsewhere in the chart were other increases in sales. Ubisoft’s The Division 2 saw a sales rise of 53 percent due to a hardware bundle. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition likewise saw a sales increase of 13 percent week-on-week, but dropped from third to eighth this week. So far this year boxed game sales are down by 15.5 percent.
