Week ending on December 7, 2019, the UK’s Top 10 chart of the best selling retail and wholesale video games, FIFA 20 holds to the top of the UK physical charts. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare stays in the second position. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe jumps to the third place.

With Christmas fast approaching, and few new releases for the rest of the year, 2019’s best sellers are taking the opportunity to climb the charts once again.

However, this week we can see the two year old release Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition jumping from seventh last week to third place this week thanks to a 29 percent boost in sales week-on-week. Part of this sales boost was caused by a new Nintendo Switch bundle that packages the game together with the improved battery Switch model.

There are four games in the UK top ten best-selling games chart from Nintendo in total. Pokemon Sword is in fifth, Luigi’s Mansion in seventh, and Pokemon Shield rounding out the list in tenth place. Both Pokemon games saw a drop in sales of 41 percent week-on-week, while Luigi’s Mansion only saw a drop of 8 percent.

The only other game to see a boost in sales over the last week was Just Dance 2020, which was boosted by 16 percent week-on-week. The boost was driven by the Nintendo Switch version, and it has been reported that the Nintendo Wii version outsold the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.

As a result of the success of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order dropped from third to fourth place. FIFA 20 is at the top of the chart, as you’d expect, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is in second place, even though the games saw a sales decrease of 38 percent and 36 percent respectively.

Sea of Thieves fell four places down to eighth, an after effect of the Black Friday sales boost wearing off. The Xbox One version of Minecraft sits in ninth place, falling from fifth last week as, again, the Black Friday sales boost wanes.

With the announcement of UK retailer GAME’s Xbox All Access program, games bundled with Xbox One consoles may still see a boost in sales as the rent-to-purchase scheme warms up.
