Week ending on February 16, 2019, the UK’s Top 10 chart of the best selling retail and wholesale video games, Far Cry New Dawn releases and takes the top of the chars. Another new release Metro Exodus takes the second position. Red Dead Redemption 2 was pushed down to the third position.

Far Cry New Dawn topped the UK physical sales chart last week, battling with three other big releases including Metro Exodus.

While Far Cry New Dawn claimed number one, it hasn’t shown massively impressive opening week sales. Compared to the last release in the series, Far Cry 5, sales were down by 86.5 percent. However, it’s unfair to do a direct comparison because Far Cry New Dawn is a spin-off title, and not a mainline Far Cry game.

The last spin-off Far Cry title, Far Cry Primal, still sold more than four times what Far Cry New Dawn has in its opening week. 60 percent of the game’s sales were for PlayStation 4, 39 percent on Xbox One, and the remainder were for PC.

The other major release for the week, Metro Exodus sold almost as well as Far Cry New Dawn, missing out on the top spot by 2,000 units. Compared to the last release in the series, Metro Last Light, which released in 2013, sales are up for the opening week by 50 percent.

With the growth of the digital sales market, and the fact that Metro Exodus contains some impactful changes to gameplay the series is known for, last week’s sales are a positive sign. 57 percent of all physical copies of Metro Exodus sold were for PlayStation 4.

The third big release for the week was Jump Force from Bandai Namco, entering the chart in fourth place. The game has sold well for a new IP, and continues the success for recent releases from Bandai Namco, including Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. Jump Force sold best for PlayStation 4, with 76 percent of copies sold being for the platform.

Crackdown 3 was the least impressive release for the week, which only made it to 13th in the chart. Launch sales are nearly 10 percent of what Crackdown 2’s were in 2010, making this quite an underwhelming release for Crackdown 3 physically.

However, all Xbox Game Pass subscribers will have been given access to the game for free on release day, meaning some consumers may be waiting until that ends before investing in a copy. The Xbox 360 was also a market leading console when Crackdown 2 released, which the Xbox One isn’t right now and could have contributed to these lower sales figures.
