Arkane Studios has announced that its upcoming PS5 exclusive, Deathloop, has gone gold. The game was originally due to launch in May this year but was delayed to give the developers time to push it to the point that they were happy with it at launch.
When a game goes gold, it means that the major work on developing it is complete. The code is finalized to a point where it can be sent to Sony for uploading and distribution on the PlayStation Network and loaded onto physical discs for all the physical editions of the game.
Any work that Arkane Studios does on the game from now on will be fixing minor bugs and glitches. All of these fixes will come out in the form of a day one patch when the game launches on September 14, 2021. This is standard practice for most games at this point and is something that helps to avoid the issues seen in Cyberpunk 2077 at launch.
Deathloop has been in the works for quite some time, and is one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2021. It’s also one of the biggest games for the PS5, which, had stock not been an issue, may have suffered without it earlier this year when it was delayed. Sony pitched the game as a flagship title for the platform, and now it looks like fans will be getting their hands on it relatively soon.
Deathloop is an interesting new title from Arkane Studios because it takes the formula that has made so many of their games great, and presents it in a brand new way. Players are caught in an endlessly looping 24-hour period which they have to learn and master in order to kill a set of targets as efficiently as possible.
However, there’s another character, the antagonist, hunting players down as they work to try to kill all of their targets. This antagonist has the same ability to live outside of the time loop as the player, making for a very interesting gameplay cycle.
Players are also able to take on the role of this antagonist, which can seriously mix up gameplay for even those who have mastered every inch of the map. It should be a game that people go on to talk about for years to come because of how innovative it is. Time will tell just how well it is received.
