For the sixth consecutive week Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has claimed the top spot in the UK physical game sales chart. Similarly this week marks the fourth consecutive week for Lego The Incredibles in second place in the same chart.
Both of these titles are geared towards a much younger audience, but they’ve managed to hold onto their positions for so long because there hasn’t been any competition. Most big releases for 2018 are lined up to arrive later this year as the countdown to the holiday season begins.
Nintendo Switch titles have seen an increase in sales over the summer, with Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild rising further down the charts, though other new releases such as Octopath Traveler have helped boost overall sales for the console. However, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition has been the game that’s performed the best for Nintendo, most likely because of the recent update the game received, which added new Breath of the Wild-themed vehicles.
Hello Neighbor, from Gearbox Publishing, saw an increase in sales of 970 percent, re-entering the chart in sixteenth position. The game launched across PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, adding a whole new host of players.
With August being a relatively quiet month for releases the chart isn’t expected to change too much. Overcooked 2 and We Happy Few are two upcoming indie titles which may shake things up a little, in addition to a brand new World of Warcraft expansion. In addition Shenmue 1 and 2 Remasters, PES 2019, and Strange Brigade will be releasing, providing something for those who want a new release this month.
September will be a huge month for high street games retailers however, with Spider-Man, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and FIFA 19 storming the streets. A new nostalgic release from Spyro should also mix the charts up and give it a new look just as Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has over the last year.
