Week ending on November 2, 2019, the UK’s Top 10 chart of the best selling retail and wholesale video games, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare keeps the top of the UK physical charts. Luigi’s Mansion 3 has released and took the second position. FIFA 20 has slipped down to the third place.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 has become the biggest Nintendo Switch launch in 2019 so far. The game outsold the previous biggest physical releases, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, and Super Mario Maker 2.

Part of this is that Luigi’s Mansion 3 had an advantage over both of those releases, being on sale for 24 hours longer than either of them. Instead of launching on a Friday, Luigi’s Mansion 3 launched on Halloween, a Thursday.

It might be surprising to some that a game starring Luigi has outsold this year’s Zelda and Mario entries, but Nintendo put a lot of stock in the game. Luigi’s Mansion 3 was a headliner at E3 for the platform holder, and Luigi’s Mansion 2 sold 5.5 million copies for the 3DS alone.

While Luigi’s Mansion 3 was the best-selling new release for the week, it was still second to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare by a large margin. The fact that sales for the shooter are down by 49 percent week-on-week makes it even more impressive.

The only other new title in the chart this week is the Disney double pack: Aladdin and The Lion King. Both of these games have been ported to modern consoles in this physical release, and made it to twelfth in the chart. The title sold best on Nintendo Switch, with 48 percent of sales, then on PlayStation 4, with 38 percent of sales, and finally on Xbox One, with 14 percent of sales.

The rest of the chart should be familiar, with FIFA 20 sitting in third and now having past the 1 million units sold at the retail mark. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition sits in fourth, showing a strong dedication to the title from Switch owners.

The Outer Worlds dropped one place to fifth this week, the second place in as many weeks, with a drop in sales of 60 percent week-on-week. MediEvil, the remake for PlayStation 4, dropped from fifth to tenth this week with a fall in sales of 64 percent.

WWE 2K20 saw a decrease in sales week-on-week of 81 percent, perhaps unsurprisingly given the widespread issues with the title. The game fell from third to fourteenth, and is unlikely to recover until a substantial patch for these glitches is released.
