Having missed out on the top spot in the UK retail game sales chart for the last week before Christmas, FIFA 21 has now reclaimed the top spot as the best-selling game for the week ending December 26, 2020.
Physical sales for the game were up by 8 percent week-on-week. This helped it push back up to the top all the way from fourth place the week before.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which was in the top spot last week, now falls to second place. Sales are down by 21 percent week-on-week. Sales have fallen for most games in the chart, which isn’t surprising considering this week covers Christmas Day.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons sits in third place, with sales down by 20 percent week-on-week. The game is still very popular, though sales may start to dip heading into the new year. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe saw a sales drop of 8 percent week-on-week, though sales should hold strong considering that the game is packaged with most Switch hardware bundles.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War saw a drop of 42 percent in sales week-on-week, causing it to fall from second to fifth this week.
December’s big new release, Cyberpunk 2077, saw a sales drop of 57 percent week-on-week. This caused it to fall to eighth place. However, this only accounts for physical sales, and digital sales seem to be a very different matter.
Spider-Man: Miles Morales is in sixth place, with sales down by 31 percent week-on-week. The game’s popularity shows that it could match sales of the main title, should they continue at this rate.
Just Dance 2021, which continues to sell best on the Nintendo Switch, is up to seventh, with sales down by 28 percent week-on-week. Super Mario 3D All-Stars is in ninth, with sales down by 25 percent, and Minecraft for the Switch is in tenth, with sales falling by 26 percent week-on-week.
Just Dance 2021 has been a huge success for Ubisoft. The game is now one week away from selling more copies than Watch Dogs Legion. This would make it the second biggest selling game of the year for the publisher, just behind Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. After seven weeks, sales for Just Dance 2021 are up by 35 percent over Just Dance 2020.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has seen its biggest year so far for sales. Since it launched in 2017, the game has sold better and better every year, and that’s still the case in 2020.
The top ten best-selling games at retail in the UK for the week ending December 26, 2020 were as follows.
