Call of Duty: Modern Warfare returns to top of UK charts

As stock shortages ended this week on Nintendo Switch games, the UK boxed sales chart was overtaken by them with more and more consumers eager to play on Nintendo’s handheld console.

Following a frantic Christmas sales window, a number of Nintendo games have been in short supply at retail, as well as the console itself. Stock began replenishing with certain retailers two weeks ago, but now all retailers have everything they need to offer the Nintendo Switch to their customers alongside all of its games.

Ring Fit Adventure has been out of the chart since stock ran out soon after release. Now, according to GfK, the game has returned to seventh place in the chart with week-on-week sales increasing by 822 percent.

Minecraft for Nintendo Switch has seen a similar result. Until last week, when it jumped to twenty-fifth place in the chart, the game had been exiled to outside the top forty. This week the game sits in sixth place with week-on-week sales increasing by 197 percent.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Edition saw a boost from more sales with Nintendo Switch console bundles, moving from fourth to third this week as week-on-week sales get a 19 percent increase.

Other Nintendo Switch games in the top ten best-selling games chart include Luigi’s Mansion 3 in ninth, with a week-on-week sales increase of 19 percent, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with a week-on-week sales increase of 25 percent.

Outside of the top ten chart we have Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in eleventh, Pokemon Sword in twelfth, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker in nineteenth, New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe Edition in twentieth, Pokemon Shield in twenty-first, Super Mario Odyssey in twenty-fourth, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening in twenty-fifth, Super Mario Maker 2 in twenty-sixth, and Super Mario Party in twenty-ninth. In total there are 15 Nintendo Switch games in the top 40 best-selling games chart.

Outside of Nintendo’s portfolio, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is still topping the chart with a sales increase week-on-week of 39 percent. FIFA 20 jumped from fifth to second place with a week-on-week sales increase of 59 percent too.

Two new games entered the top 40 this week. The first is Journey to the Savage Planet, which debuted in thirty-fourth place, with 60 percent of all sales being for the PlayStation 4 version. Blair Witch was the second new game, and entered the chart in the fortieth place. It’s thought that both games will perform better on digital storefronts.
