Biggest announcements from September 2019 Nintendo Direct

 
Yesterday Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct conference to discuss new games and features for the Nintendo Switch. These are the biggest announcements from the event in no particular order.

New Animal Crossing: New Horizons Trailer

A new video for Animal Crossing: New Horizons showed off 5 minutes of gameplay from the upcoming title. The video showed how Tom Nook will help players set up on their new island, as well as how each island can be shared with up to eight friends in multiplayer.

New Features for Pokemon Sword and Shield

Nintendo revealed that for the first time in franchise history, players will be able to head out into the wilderness and gather ingredients to cook curry in Pokemon Sword and Shield. In addition to this new crafting system, players can also camp in the wild to interact with their Pokemon, as well as those of other players. Finally, two new Pokemon were revealed, including a ghost-type that lives in a teapot.

Overwatch for Nintendo Switch

Rumours of a Nintendo Switch version of Overwatch were confirmed yesterday, as it was announced that Overwatch for Nintendo Switch launches on October 15, 2019. The game is being ported over to the console, with the inclusion of motion controls for aiming with Widomaker, and steering the RIP-Tyre with Junkrat.

SNES on Switch Online

The selection of free games available with Nintendo Switch Online is expanding to bring 20 SNES titles to the subscription service. Included in these new titles is Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Stunt Race FX.

Deadly Premonition Comes to Switch

A sequel to the cult classic Deadly Premonition was announced for Nintendo Switch, Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise. The new game stars both the original protagonist, and a brand new one, as they work to solve separate mysteries fourteen years apart. In addition to this new sequel, the original Deadly Premonition is now available for Nintendo Switch as Deadly Premonition Origins.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 8-Player Multiplayer

A new game mode called ScreamPark was announced for Nintendo Switch. The mode pits Luigis against Gooigis in a battle for up to 8 players on a single Nintendo Switch system.

New Characters for Super Smash Bros Ultimate

Expanding the roster of characters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate today is Banjo and Kazooie, of Banjo and Kazooie fame. On the horizon another new character, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury, will also be joining the character roster in the future.

Super Kirby Clash

The free-to-start platformer game had a new trailer shown at Nintendo Direct. This one showed four Kirbys fighting a large boss. It was said that this will earn player’s crafting materials to use to build upgrades, in a similar way to how Monster Hunter World allows players to do the same.

Return of the Obra Dinn for Nintendo Switch

The first person mystery title from the creator of Papers, Please is heading to Nintendo Switch later in 2019

Divinity Original Sin 2 Steam Save Transfer

As well as being announced as available for the Nintendo Switch now, it was also confirmed that players can work across both Steam and Nintendo Switch in a single Divinity Original Sin 2 playthrough. Players can transfer their saves back and forth in order to work on whatever platform is available to them.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore

The Wii U title that crossed the worlds of Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei is being ported to Nintendo Switch. The updated game includes a new song, and launches on January 16, 2020.

Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast

The sequel to star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is coming to Nintendo Switch. The title is thought of as one of the best lightsaber experiences in gaming, and launches on September 24, 2019. However, the multiplayer mode is not being ported.

Assassin’s Creed: Rebel Collection

Continuing on from the port of Assassin’s Creed 3, Assassin’s Creed: Rebel Collection adds the second two Kenway titles to the Switch. The collection includes updated versions of both Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, and Assassin’s Creed Rogue, including all previously released DLC. The collection launches on the 6th of December 2019.

Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition

The original Xenoblade Chronicles is coming to Nintendo Switch as a remastered version, updated from the original 2015 Wii release. The game launches in 2020, and shows all of the events leading up to Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
