Activision announced that they have released a brand new version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. This new edition, the Battle Edition, is available on PC exclusively through Battle.net, and has no Zombies mode.
Both of Call of Duty: Black Ops4’s other game modes, multiplayer and Blackout (battle royale) are still included in the Battle Edition. This version of the game which doesn’t have the Zombies mode is selling for the lower price of $29.99 given the content that’s been stripped out of it.
It is possible for those who purchase the Battle Edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to upgrade to the full game with Zombies mode after buying and playing this smaller version. The upgrade includes the full Zombies mode, 1,100 Call of Duty Points, and some other digital bonuses.
Rob Schonfeld, Senior Vice President of Activision told press that the PC community has been one of the best and strongest for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. This new edition of the game aims to integrate more PC gamers into the Black Ops 4 community by offering them a cheaper version that’s focused on the most-popular modes, multiplayer and Blackout.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is the first game in the franchise to launch with no campaign. Instead the game has three core modes, multiplayer, Blackout, and Zombies. Multiplayer mode has always been popular in the franchise, often setting the bar for other competitive shooters for the rest of the year, and Zombies mode has been a Call of Duty-fan favorite ever since World at War.
Blackout is an entirely new mode that brings battle royale to the Call of Duty franchise for the first time. So far this game mode has proven to be incredibly popular, with some Twitch streamers who previously specialized in Fortnite or PUBG even moving over to Blackout as their core game.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Battle Edition may well attract more players because it’s a version of the game that’s focused on what most gamers want from Call of Duty, competitive multiplayer experiences. Zombies mode is a primarily cooperative experience, which isn’t what most players want when the alternatives are battle royale titles such as Fortnite.
