WWE 2K18 announced for Nintendo Switch

2K today announced that WWE 2K18 will be coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. The WWE series hasn’t been released for Nintendo consoles since WWE 13 for the Nintendo Wii in October 2013. The game was announced by its cover star Seth Rollins in a short trailer for the Switch edition.

The WWE series brings together more than twenty professional developers and gives control of them over to players. Anyone can take part in a match as or against their favourite wrestlers in both arena matches, or as part of the storyline put together by the developers for players to experience as their own character.

When WWE 2K18 launches on October 17th later this year, it will be launching simultaneously on Playstation 4, Xbox One home consoles. It is not known at the moment whether the Nintendo Switch version of the game will launch at the same time. Given that the Switch only launched this year, it may take 2K some time to build the game for hardware they might not have had access to when they began development on the Xbox One and PS4 versions. Originally the statement from 2K didn’t confirm the release date for the Switch version, but a clarification released shortly after tells us that the game will still launch for Switch in Fall 2017.

Third party games are what is sorely lacking from the lineup for the Switch. This news is exactly what Nintendo needs to show consumers that there are more third party titles on the way, meaning there will be more than just Nintendo titles available for players. A WWE game never materialised for the Nintendo Wii U, and many other third party developers simply didn’t release games for that console. The fact that 2K is announcing on of their biggest titles of the year for the Switch is a good sign for the console’s future.

According to the game’s official website all the new features coming in this latest addition to the series will be brought to Switch without exception. These new features include eight-man matches, a new grapple and carry system for even more absurd wrestling moves, as well as completely reworked animation and graphics.
