Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition tops UK chart

One game has finally pushed Animal Crossing: New Horizons out of the top spot, where it has been for a few weeks now. That game is Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, the remake of the underrated Nintendo Wii release.

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition sold over double what the original game did when it launched on the Nintendo Wii. However, sales were below those of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which launched in Christmas 2017.

Unfortunately the UK sales chart only counts physical sales for Nintendo games, since Nintendo don’t share their digital sales data. With the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic forcing many to stay indoors and avoid stores, it’s likely that the game will have sold much better on Nintendo’s digital platform.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons saw a 50 percent drop in sales week-on-week, but is still holding strong in second place. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is in third place, where it has been for a couple of weeks now.

2K Games launched some new Nintendo Switch titles over the week. Borderlands Legendary Collection landed in eighteenth place, selling a little over 100 units, and BioShock: The Collection for Nintendo Switch debuted in twenty-second place with equally weak sales. 2K Games also released Xcom 2 Collection for the Switch, but as a digital-only product.

Minecraft Dungeons was also launched last week, but as a digital-only game across all platforms, it’s nowhere to be seen in the chart.

Sony is currently holding a Days of Play sale, which has pushed a few PlayStation exclusives up the chart. Days Gone rose to sixth place this week, with a sales boost of 762 percent week-on-week.

The Last Of Us Remastered also saw a sales boost, moving up to ninth place with a 220 percent increase in sales week-on-week. The game is likely to see the good sales continue with the upcoming release of The Last Of Us Part 2.

Finally, PlayStation VR Worlds sits in tenth place with a 145 percent boost to sales week-on-week.

Further down the chart, God of War moved up to eleventh, Marvel’s Spider-Man moved up to fourteenth, Astro Bot Rescue Mission moved up to twentieth, Everybody’s Golf VR moved up to twenty-first, Death Stranding moved up to twenty-sixth, Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition moved up to twenty-seventh, and Uncharted 4 moved up to thirty-second.

Maneater, a new entry last week, fell from sixth to twenty-third with a 56 percent drop in sales week-on-week. Saints Row: The Third Remastered fell from seventh to twenty-fourth with a 52 percent drop in sales.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe dropped from second to twelfth place, indicating that Switch hardware stock is no longer as plentiful as it was.
