The Last of Us Part 2 tops Australia and New Zealand

The Last of Us Part 2

The Last Of Us Part 2 is a worldwide success it seems. The game has topped both the weekly sales charts for both Australia and New Zealand, shaking things up quite a bit.

FIFA 20 and Grand Theft Auto 5 topped the charts for Australia and New Zealand respectively the week prior. Now Grand Theft Auto 5 is sticking around in second place in New Zealand, but FIFA 20 has dropped to eighth in Australia, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons taking second place this week.

After placing third in Australia, and fourth in New Zealand, Persona 4 Golden has almost completely disappeared from both charts this week, sticking in sixth place in New Zealand for now.

In Australia, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sits in third place, and Ring Fit Adventure is in seventh place. Both games were in the chart the week before, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has risen from ninth place, indicating that there is more Nintendo Switch hardware stock available in the region. In New Zealand on the other hand, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the only game in the chart, in seventh place, showing that there could be a shortage of Switch hardware there.

The Last Of Us Remastered has jumped into both charts this week, in ninth place in Australia, and fourth in New Zealand. No doubt this is a surge in sales thanks to the release of the game’s sequel. Given how story-focused the series is, it’s likely that fans want to play the original game before diving into the second one.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has risen one place in New Zealand to third this week, and two places in Australia to fourth this week. The game seems to be generating steady sales despite the increase in competition. The launch of a new season in the free multiplayer mode, Warzone, has probably helped sales.

In Australia, thanks to what must be availability in Switch stock, Minecraft on Nintendo Switch rounds the chart off in tenth place. In New Zealand however, it’s Horizon: Zero Dawn that rounds out the chart. This could be due to a combination of low Switch stock, and the announcement of the game’s sequel, Horizon: Forbidden West.
