Death Stranding

The first game from Hideo Kojima’s new studio, Kojima Productions, was the most polarizing release of 2019. The game is very different to anything else on the market, and as a result received review scores as low as 1 and as high as 10. The project was clearly loved by those who took it in and tried to understand it, but for many it was a confusion game with too many cutscenes.

Plants vs Zombies Battle for Neighborville

With Battle for Neighborville EA tried something new. The game was launched in early access, adding a new feature each week for a set number of weeks until it launched. Interestingly, the game has capitalised on the hero shooter genre, providing fans with quick matches that have enough variation in them to matter in longer play sessions.

Need for Speed: Heat

The latest Need for Speed game failed to hit the mark with many racing fans. However, the level of customization and new mechanic for gaining reputation whilst racing and avoiding the police at night was different enough to entice many people to the streets of the Miami-inspired Palm City.

The 2019 version of Modern Warfare is a very different beast to Call of Duty 4. The game is a reimagining of the source material that inspired it, but tells a different story. While it came under fire for a certain mission that seems to target Russia, most people have thoroughly enjoyed the game, and still love the multiplayer experience.

The first mainline Pokemon RPGs for the Nintendo Switch have proven to be some of the best-selling in the franchise’s history. The games bring players to a new region in the Pokemon world, with a new story and characters to explore, as well as a host of new mechanics that make the games even more engrossing to play.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Respawn Entertainment’s single-player Star Wars game has found a home with fans of the franchise. The game follows a new character in a story set between Episode 3 and 4 in the film franchise. With the 9th movie now in cinemas, the game has definitely capitalized on the interest in Star Wars, but its gameplay and story alone are enough to make it stand out as a brilliant entry to the series.
