World War Z

Saber Interactive’s game adaptation of the World War Z universe found a home with a certain group of gamers, but hasn’t become a worldwide sensation just yet. The game pits four players against hordes of zombies across a range of missions, offering meaningful progression for weapons and skills in-between, all of which has been built upon over the year with a series of free updates.

Days Gone

Sony Bend’s latest game was a PlayStation exclusive, and proved to be massively popular with all PlayStation 4 owners. The game stars actor Sam Witwer in a post-pandemic world savaged by a zombie-like plague. Players follow an emotional story whilst exploring this world, taking on almost as many zombies at once as players do in World War Z.

Rage 2

Bethesda’s sequel to Rage is a very different beast, bringing players to a huge open world set within Rage’s meteor-savaged Earth. The game’s use of colour was one of the biggest changes, and that combined with the increased pace made it a hit with shooter fans, particularly in light of a lack of a sequel to DOOM.

Mortal Kombat 11

The latest Mortal Kombat game was a great success for NetherRealm Studios. The game continues the Mortal Kombat storyline, ending in a satisfying conclusion that fans have been asking for for some time. The game still has a large player base, and is the new base game for professional Mortal Kombat esports tournaments.

Blood & Truth

As a PlayStation 4 exclusive PSVR game, Blood & Truth was incredibly impressive. The game is still one of the best VR experiences in general, with great movement and shooting controls, as well as story that’s uncommonly engaging for a VR game.

Total War: Three Kingdoms

Total War Three Kingdoms was a big departure from the norm for Total War games. While historical accuracy still plays an important role, the game focuses far more on providing players with unique leaders who can perform unrealistic feats in battle. The leaders were taken from stories in China’s history that embellish the abilities of certain figures.

Madden NFL 20

EA’s American football title, Madden NFL 20 performed very well. It has been on top of the US charts for many weeks since it launched and stayed on top positions till the end of the year. It sold less in Europe for the obvious reason of being a far less popular game than European football, which is covered very well by another of EA’s titles, FIFA 20.
