A release date has finally been revealed for the upcoming remaster SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. The game will release on May 22, 2020, at least that’s according to a new Nintendo infographic that has seemingly leaked the date.
The infographic through which the game’s release date has been found was created by Nintendo to show off all of the upcoming games they have launching for the Nintendo Switch in 2020.
Of course, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is also coming to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One, so there’s a good chance that this release date applies to those platforms as well. However, the Nintendo Switch sometimes sees a later release date for games launching across multiple platforms, so there is still a possibility that the game will launch sooner for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
With that said, the release date of May 22, 2020 seems likely to be the actual launch date across all platforms. The reason for this is that it ties in with the next SpongeBob SquarePants movie, Sponge on the Run, which will be launching in cinemas at the same time.
There are a few different versions of the game currently available for consumers to pre-order. The standard edition includes the base game only across all platforms, and costs £29.99.
The Shiny Edition of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is the next stage up from the standard edition, costing £139.99. This edition packs in the base game, a SpongeBob figurine with a golden spatula, a pair of SpongeBob SquarePants tennis socks, six lithographs, and a set of wall stickers.
The final version of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is the F.U.N Edition. This edition is the most expensive, available to pre-order for £259.99. The F.U.N Edition comes with the base game, a pair of SpongeBob SquarePants tennis socks, six lithographs, a set of wall stickers, a set of keyrings, the SpongeBob SquarePants figurine with golden spatula, a Patrick figurine, and a Sandy figurine.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom originally launched for PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, and GameBoy Advance in 2003. The game is well loved by fans who played it originally, and clearly there is a lot of demand for this remaster.
