Pokemon dominates EMEAA charts

Pokémon Sword

Pokemon Sword and Shield have taken three of the spots in the top ten best selling games in the EMEAA combined digital and physical sales charts.

Despite digital sales remaining a mystery for all Nintendo games, Pokemon Sword and Shield have taken the first and third positions in this week’s EMEAA combined chart. Pokemon Sword and Shield Dual Edition, which contains both games, has also taken a spot in the top ten, hanging out in ninth place this week.

Over the weekend The Pokemon Company announced that Pokemon Sword and Shield have become the fastest selling Nintendo Switch games to date, selling 6 million units in the first week on sale. An important clarification was made for this sales figure, since it consists of only three days, the first three days that made up the end of the week Pokemon Sword and Shield launched.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, another big recent release, has made it to second place in the combined EMEAA chart this week. The game is being praised as one of the best single player Star Wars games for years, but even it hasn’t sold enough to beat Pokemon Sword.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, despite breaking records, has been removed from the top spot in the combined chart that it held last week. This week the game has dropped to fourth in the chart, making way for both new Pokemon games, as well as the new Star Wars entry.

FIFA 20 dropped one place to fifth this week, but remains in a good position despite being a month old now. Death Stranding has dropped from second to sixth this week as initial sales drop off, and Need for Speed: Heat has fallen from third to eighth, making way for the new releases in the chart.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is the only game in the chart that hasn’t launched in the last two months. Remarkably the game is still selling well enough to make it to tenth place in the combined EMEAA chart this week.

Below is the top ten best selling games in the EMEAA in terms of combined physical and digital sales for the week ending on November 16, 2019.
